Road developments and upgrades around Guildford
Aug 15, 2023
Recently, the road network in and around Guildford has received some significant upgrades, with further improvements planned for the future. These ambitious roadway projects aim to enhance traffic flow, connectivity, and provide a smooth commuting experience for the local residents. In this article, we will delve into the specifics of these developments and upgrades and highlight the positive impacts they will have on the residents of Rosehill Waters.
Infrastructure enhancements
These road changes have been strategically developed to decrease congestion in the area and improve commute time to Perth CBD. Below is an overview of the projects that are closely located to Rosehill Waters.
Northlink WA
Now completed, the $1.02 billion Northlink WA project was WA’s biggest ever road initiative. Providing vital links between key regional areas, the project has improved commute times and improved freight efficiency by relieving pressure on the Great Northern Highway through the Swan Valley.
This crucial project will include upgrades to Tonkin Highway and Great Eastern Highway Interchange, with the aim of eliminating the bottleneck between Bayswater and Redcliffe, where the highway merges from three to two lanes. The road improvements will see additional lanes and interchanges added in each direction. The purpose is to enhance traffic capacity and vehicle safety, by streamlining the movement through this corridor. The first milestone to reach completion is expected to be the addition of southbound laneways between Collier and Guildford Roads.
Guildford Rd Interchange
New bridges are under construction at the confluence of Guilford Road and the Tonkin Highway, providing vehicles with an opportunity to join and exit in southbound and northbound directions. The interchange is expected to reach completion in mid-2024.
Ellenbrook - Morley Train Line.
As part of the broader public transportation development, the Ellenbrook-Morley line will see the establishment of six stations along a 21km track. As part of this development, a shared path will be constructed along the length of the line providing a safe transport option for cyclists. This project will connect the suburbs north of Guildford to Bayswater station, alleviating the volume of traffic on the Tonkin Highway, particularly during commuter times.
Rosehill Lodge Precinct
Through careful planning and design, the approved plans will create a pedestrian-friendly environment in which safety and accessibility are prioritised in Rosehill Waters.
Slower traffic speeds will be created along West Parade and the addition of recreational paths and trails will seek to aid pedestrian safety. A vehicle road crossing on the creekline has been removed from the original planning to help improve native fauna and wildlife habitats.

Temporary disruption
These road changes will cause a number of short and long-term-road closures. Residents should be prepared for construction zones, detours, and possible traffic congestion while these improvements are underway. Detailed information on the planned closures can be found on the government website.
Patience and understanding during this transitional period are essential to ensuring the success of the broader project.
Beyond the temporary disruptions, the improved connectivity and transportation infrastructure promise to significantly reduce congestion and travel times, contributing to a more efficient daily commute for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, a renewed focus on pedestrian-friendly infrastructure may encourage a rise in alternative modes of transport, such as the train, cycling and walking promoting a healthier lifestyle and improving air quality.
